ParentMD is a US-based pediatrician‑led digital platform that delivers “the Baby Playbook” – a streaming library of videos, checklists, symptom tools, and podcasts that guide families from birth through adolescence.

Hospitals and clinics can hand new parents a fully branded portal at discharge, while individual subscribers gain round‑the‑clock access to virtual nurses and pediatricians. Built as a modern web app, ParentMD keeps trusted answers one click away and lets healthcare partners extend evidence‑based care far beyond the exam room.

Business Challenge

ParentMD had already earned a reputation as a parenting startup that brings expert guidance to families, yet its early success still ran on a straightforward WordPress site hosting the Baby Playbook. When the founders decided to license the platform to hospitals under their own branding, the original stack hit its ceiling.

They engaged ProCoders to refresh the design, embed true scalability, and launch a new B2B revenue stream: a white‑label version for private clinics where each partner can curate the Baby Playbook, upload their own materials, and configure Stripe‑powered subscriptions with flexible free‑access periods – all while preserving the ParentMD seal of clinical trust.

Assembling the ParentMD Team

Pressed for time, we jumped straight into an agile build. ParentMD supplied their live WordPress site; our designer translated its content into new interface concepts, and those screens became the blueprint for architecture and iterative sprints.

To move fast, we assembled a compact, cross‑functional team that remained unchanged throughout development:

Choosing the Technology Stack

ParentMD’s initial technical advisor suggested Statamic, a lightweight flat‑file CMS built on Laravel that excels at rapid prototyping. Adopting it for the first sprint let us spin up a proof‑of‑concept in days and validated that our tight deadlines were achievable.

Yet as soon as we modelled hospital branding rules and vendor‑specific content trees, the platform’s complexity outgrew Statamic’s page‑oriented paradigm. White‑label portals needed dozens of interlinked entities such as articles, videos, age gates, symptom tools, and subscription tiers – all governed by granular permissions. To meet those requirements without compromise, we pivoted to Laravel Nova backed by PostgreSQL.

Nova’s modular resource system allowed us to craft any entity type, attach bespoke forms, and fine‑tune validation or visibility with a few lines of code. Its open extension ecosystem and the ease of writing custom packages meant new business rules could be added in hours, not days. Crucially, Nova’s advanced filtering and relationship tools handled the deep nesting we needed for age‑smart content and vendor overrides, while PostgreSQL’s JSONB fields kept data flexible for future iterations.

By making this switch early, we preserved delivery speed while gaining an admin console hospitals can trust for the long haul.

Stripe Billing

Each hospital or clinic has the freedom to decide how long new parents enjoy complimentary access to the Baby Playbook. When that trial ends, the family can either let their access lapse or convert to a paid subscription at the price set by the hospital.

We wired Stripe into the platform so every partner gets its own connected account, free-period rules, and pricing tiers, allowing payments to flow directly to the right vendor without extra engineering effort.

tranSMART Localization

To make the Playbook usable in bilingual settings, we added a tranSMART middleware layer. During each deployment, the service scans interface strings and article content, then produces a fully translated Spanish version so hospitals can switch languages on the fly without maintaining parallel sites.

Key Outcomes

With the MVP in production, ParentMD is actively courting its first hospital partners, using the live platform to demonstrate how a fully branded sub-domain can be spun up tailored to each institution’s look and feel.

Behind the scenes, an age-smart content engine serves the right videos and checklists as a child grows, and a self-service admin console lets clinical staff curate, hide, or extend the library without writing code. Stripe billing, configurable for any trial length or pricing model, switches on automatically when the introductory period chosen by a given partner ends.

Delivered on schedule, this production-ready system now gives ParentMD the credibility and technical muscle to convert demos into long-term enterprise deals.

Closing Remarks

By swapping a static blog for a modular Vue & Laravel Nova architecture, ProCoders enabled ParentMD to scale from dozens of readers to thousands of new families per hospital – each receiving evidence-based guidance in a brand they already trust.

Hospitals gain an effortless value-add for patients, parents get curated advice the moment they need it, and ParentMD now owns a platform built for growth rather than workarounds.
